TRAVEL WILL BE REQUIREDJob SummaryThe Manager of EHS & Transportation Safety is responsible for facilitating a culture of excellence by providing oversight and guidance of proactive EHS and Transportation safety programs within the facilities that he/she is assigned. The position reports directly to the C&S Regional EHS Manager.Scope of Position: Current position will provide oversight of EHS and Transportation Safety for all C&S Piggly Wiggly warehouse operations and equipment.Estimated time dedicated to each role: - EHS: 50 % - Transportation: 50 %Essential Functions (Responsibilities & Duties of Position)EHS (Environment, Health & Safety): 50% - Proactively work to achieve a Culture of Safety. - Supports injury reduction efforts and associated workers compensation costs. - Establish sound working relationships with associates, support departments and operations leadership. - Oversee Implementation of Company EHS Programs and Initiatives. - Work with Corporate EHS to ensure and maintain compliance with Local, State and Federal EHS regulations. - Coach, guide, and develop local Operations Team and support departments in the recognition and remediation of hazards, unsafe behaviors and the implementation and sustainment of EHS Programs and Initiatives. - Coach, guide, and develop trainers and other applicable personnel to ensure EHS training programs, initiatives and safe behaviors are effectively delivered and implemented. - Conduct EHS Training audits to ensure content, quality and delivery is consistent with Corporate Training Program requirements. - Conduct EHS Program audits and work with local leadership to facilitate corrective actions to ensure a safe work environment. - Immediately addresses unsafe conditions or behaviors. - Oversee and/or conduct accident investigations per company guidelines, establish formal incident review board, identify trends, facilitate corrective action and use judgment and discretion when documenting findings.Transportation Safety Specialist: 50% - Establish, update, implement, and manage a comprehensive transportation safety program. - Administer a uniform record keeping system that complies with DOT regulations and C&S standards. - Create a Safety Committee and organize all Safety Committee meetings - Assist the Transportation Managers and HR Managers with the screening, interviewing, selection, and training of new drivers; ensure the appropriate background checks have been completed. - Investigate accidents for both OTR and Work safe accidents. - Ensure and verify that appropriate drug screening is done on each type of accident. In the case of a potentially significant liability accident, you will be the employee at the scene to ensure proper procedures are followed, reports are completed, and the proper notifications are done in a timely manner. - Serve as the Chairperson on the accident review committees for OTR accidents. - Ensure that OTR accidents are reviewed on a timely basis - Ensure that all tractors have the proper paperwork to meet Federal, State and Local regulations. - Verify the annual MVR record checks on each driver and be certain a follow-up is completed on any exceptions. - Record and communicate to any customer / vendor, any unsafe conditions in or around their physical pick up or delivery locations. - Assist in the development of training tools; use these tools to re-certify drivers or re-train those who require training follow up. - Develop a professional relationship with the authorities and agencies that we operate under, ie. DOT, State Police, American Trucking Association, DMV, etc.; participate in their meetings when applicable. - Develop and recognize drivers with exceptional safety records through coordinating safety banquets, truck driving rodeos, etc.Specialized knowledge: - Familiarity with adult learning theories and practices is preferred - Excellent problem solving skills; excellent attention to detail and high degree of accuracy; excellent verbal and written communication skills - Extensive knowledge of FMCSA driver qualification standards and regulations - Strong, engaging leadership style with superb coaching abilities
