Our goal is to help keep Wisconsin safe, healthy and strong This is an excellent opportunity for a Comprehensive Reproductive Healthcare Assistant (40hrs/wk) at our Sheboygan (24) and Manitowoc (16) Health Centers. PURPOSE of POSITION : Assists patients seeking abortion and family planning services by screening, educating and preparing them for their appointment. As a member of a total health care team, the CRHC Assistant facilitates efficient clinic flow; ensures availability of patient care supplies; performs basic laboratory and screening procedures and participates in the implementation of patient care plans. Professional appearance and attitude required. Bilingual skills desirable. Computer skills desirable. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 1. High school diploma, GED or equivalent. 2. Certification from an accredited medical assistant technical program is preferred. 3. At least one (1) year experience in a clinical or surgical outpatient setting is required. 4. Experience in reproductive health, family planning, OB, L&D or related medical/surgical experience is a plus. 5. Current CPR certification required (can be obtained within 60 days of hire). PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Physical demands of the position necessitate hearing, talking, handling and grasping regularly. May require lifting up to 30 pounds. Specific vision conditions include close vision reading. WORKING CONDITIONS: The position is generally performed in a medical office environment but involves frequent interruptions. The noise level is usually moderate. The work environment characteristics are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this position. Will work with blood or blood-borne pathogens and will require OSHA training which will include extensive safety precautions and the use of protective equipment. Availability to work flexible hours and travel to other PPWI other health centers as needed. Must have own reliable transportation. This position requires occasional traveling statewide, therefore a valid driver's license and auto insurance in accordance with agency liability standards may be required. Evening and/or weekend hours may be necessary. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Clerical/front-office duties: Greets patients, answers phones, refers calls, and makes appointments. Participates in the ordering of supplies and inventory. Complies with all inventory policies and procedures. Assists in taking of monthly physical inventories. Checks patients out and collects and records patient fees per agency policies. Provides information about PPWI's services and obtains patient information. Answers routine patient questions within scope of training and PPWI protocols. Directs patient concerns/questions that require further clinical assessment or medical advice to licensed personnel. Responsible for the accuracy of patient information entered into the agency's Practice Management System. Clinical duties: Performs pre-abortion counseling sessions, including discussion of all pregnancy options and assessment of decision to terminate. Informs patients about the abortion procedure and the clinic process at a level that she will understand. Reviews risks of procedure per protocol. Secures patient's signature on the consent forms and assures that all necessary documents relative to consent are in order. Discusses contraceptive methods with patients. Educates patients regarding abortion procedures. Follows laboratory requirements as defined in PPFA and PPWI Medical Standards and Guidelines and CLIA regulations. Performs and documents basic laboratory tests and results including, but not limited to STI, venipuncture, urine pregnancy tests, hemoglobin, and Rh testing. Alerts licensed staff to abnormal results. Maintains appropriate laboratory records. Obtains and records information required by clinicians in the medical record including vital signs; verifies accurate completion of health history form; notifies clinician of pertinent patient information. Assists with preparation, cleaning, sterilization and stocking of equipment and rooms. Assists clinicians and physicians consistent with PPFA and PPWI protocols and training. Provides support to patients during procedures and escorts patients to recovery room. Prepares and labels lab specimens for laboratory. Monitors POC specimen/log to ensure each sample is properly documented, reviewed by a clinician, and follow-up occurs when needed. Other duties: Participate in health center efforts to achieve established goals for productivity.(e.g. assist licensed staff with visits; answer phones within 6 rings presenting the soonest appointment) Participate in health center/affiliate efforts to achieve established revenue cycle goals. (e.g. screen and enroll clients in third party payer sources both public and private; collect fees at the time of service, ask for donations, post accurately, adhere to frequency tables in terms of dispensing medication etc.) Create & maintain medical documentation in an EHR system in compliance with EHR policies and procedures. Adhere to affiliate goals, policies and standards of conduct in terms of professionalism. Assist center staff in achieving 60 minute visits as well as answering phones professionally. Maintains knowledge of equipment operation for automatic blood pressure cuff/pulse oximeter. Complies with all safety and emergency policies and procedures. Keep current on relevant anatomy and physiology, methods of contraception, STI's, pregnancy, adoption, early prenatal care, education techniques, community resources, agency protocol, referral procedures, and all Planned Parenthood programs. Makes appropriate referrals to other Planned Parenthood programs, physicians, clinics and community agencies. Performs and documents non-diagnostic ultra-sounds to determine gestational age of fetus. Performs IM injections, under direct supervision of licensed staff. Prepares products of conception for examination by MD. Perform other duties as may be assigned. The Sheboygan Press.
