Job Description:
The 21st Century Preparatory School, a 4K-8 independent public
charter school, opened in fall 2002 through authorization from the
University of Wisconsin-Parkside and the University of Wisconsin
System Board of Regents. The charter is held by Racine Charter One,
Inc., a Wisconsin 501 (c) (3) nonprofit corporation whose
nine-member board of directors, including an ex-officio
representative of the UW-Parkside Chancellor, oversees school
operation. The school is administered by a three-member leadership
team led by the school's Executive Director.
The Executive Director leads 21st Century Preparatory School toward
achieving its vision through careful attention to our mission and
philosophy. She/he helps direct the institution in our unwavering
drive to help every child every day reach his or her greatest
potential. We are a school grounded in deep collaborative
relationships and partnerships among all members of the community
with the Executive Director being the glue that assures
adhesion.Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Embody, advocate for, and execute on the established mission,
vision and philosophy of 21st Century Preparatory School as laid
out in our school charter
- Continuously reinforces a culture of respect, collaboration and
innovation that engages all staff and focuses on the needs of
students and their families
- Serve as the primary spokesperson and ambassador for the school
and develop strategic alliances/collaborations with organizations
throughout the community
- Effectively communicate and maintain excellent relationships with
all members of the school community, inlcuding the Board of
Directors, leadership team, faculty, staff, families and
children
- Foster the growth and success of relevant professional
development programs that support our outstanding staff of teachers
and administrators to excel in their careers as educators
- Maintain a balanced disciplinary system that includes positive
reinforcement of positive behavior
- Manage a leadership team and administration capable of carrying
out the daily functions required of operating a school
- Ensure all reporting requirements are completed accurately and
submitted on time, including state (DPI), federal, UW-Parkside,
etc.
- Monitor and report to the board on student achievement, faculty
accomplishments, emerging issues and discipline
- Oversee the fiscal operations, including execution of effective
budgeting and audit functions
- Lead all enrollment efforts to meet targets as laid out through
the budget and strategic plan
- Contract with external entities to provide non-academic services
in accord with board policies
- Direct employment processes in compliance with board policies
- Adhere to the policies and procedures set in place by the Board
of Directors and school charter
- Research, evaluate and propose plans for school improvements
- Promote family engagement by supporting the family engagement
team and all programsExperience and Demonstrated Capabilities
- Background as a social advocate (e.g. social work, special
education, psychology, teaching, school administration) in a
variety of settings -schools, community organizations, child
development centers and the like
- Experience working effectively in urban environments,
demonstrating sensitivity to and appreciation of a broad array of
ethnic, racial and cultural backgrounds, home environments, and
cultural practices
- Demonstrated effectiveness as a supervisor with excellent
interpersonal skills
- Experience working in partnership with families
- Experience in effectively addressing challenging situations
involving families, children, educators and or other
professionals
- Demonstrated knowledge and capability with basic budgeting
- Ability to delegate and hold others accountable
- Understanding of the culture of Racine is desirable
- Master's Degree or higher in Education and/or Human Services
related field (e.g. social work, psychology, special education)
