Overview Plans and implements an educational program in line with the Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards. Follows the goals and policies of The Salvation Army Child Care Center. Plans activities that are developmentally appropriate and meet the individual needs of the children, and provides constant care and supervision of children while at the Center. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions. * Greets each parent and child upon arrival and departure. * Plans and implements all classroom and outdoor activities for the assigned age group on a daily basis. * Assumes responsibility for the welfare, health and safety of the children, including keeping classrooms and outside play areas cleaned and organized. * Takes and submits daily attendance reports. * Oversees the work of, and trains Assistant Teachers and volunteers assigned to their area. Provides classroom orientation to newly assigned assistants, volunteers and new students. * Supervises playground activities, maintaining safety measures. Maintains contact with children both individually and in small groups. * Attends staff meetings and participates in special events of the center (e.g. Holiday Family Fun Night, Family Picnic, Fundraising, etc.). * Meets continuing education requirements according to state licensing standards. * Assumes responsibility for all required reports for the class. * Maintains confidentiality with regard to children, families, and the program. * Ensures all daily jobs are covered. * Gives medication according to parent's written instructions and records it. * Fosters positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that promotes good relationships with parents, children, co-workers and supervisors. This includes, but is not limited to, such actions as: resolution of conflicts in a professional manner; courteous treatment of staff, visitors, parents and children; respect of others' property and person; and professional and appropriate communication to and about parents, children, co-workers and supervisors. * Other responsibilities: * Drives Salvation Army vehicles to transport participants to and from activities. * Other duties as appropriate and assigned for this position. Qualifications The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required for this position. * Must have a clear understanding of the ministry and vision of the Sheboygan Corps. * Must complete and stay current with The Salvation Army's Safe From Harm training. * Must be 18 years of age or older. Education: * Must meet the educational requirements according to Wisconsin State Licensing standards. * Minimum six credit hours in Early Childhood Development. Certifications: * Certification in CPR and First Aid. * Valid Wisconsin Driver's License with clearance to drive from The Salvation Army's insurance carrier is a plus. * Must be able to qualify in Youngstar registry with at least a minimum level 2 credential; Level 6 or 7 minimum preferred. Experience: * Six months experience working in a day care center preferred. Skills: * Experience in managing and motivating others. * Good oral and written communication skills. * Ability to work well with others. * Good organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and follow through on assignments. * Ability to think independently and exercise sound judgment. * Computer skills appropriate for the job * Exhibit enthusiastic, friendly, and outgoing personality. * Must be available to work holidays as required. Supervisory Responsibility: Oversees work of Assistant Teachers assigned to the class, as well as volunteers, and reports on their work performance to the Director. Travel: Local, for field trips, etc. Working Conditions: This job is performed at times in a classroom environment at normal room temperature. The noise level in this work environment is usually low to loud. For some duties of this job, such as special events and outdoor activities, the employee will be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment at these events is usually moderate to loud. At times the duties will involve working with individuals having infectious and/or communicable diseases.
